My best advise would be to not limit yourself to the internet to find and win scholarships. There are so many more resources out there and often times you can find scholarships that other students did not find. Go to your library and check out scholarship listing books, making sure to get the latest versions. There you will find scholarships that are categorized by your interests, major, race, club affiliations, etc…

Creating and maintaining a scholarship database requires tens of thousands of dollars and that is why there are only a few big sites that do it–as you mentioned. What you will find is that there are only a small handful of people who maintain their own database of scholarships and past that, everyone one else just licenses (i.e. pays an annual subscription) to use the data from one of the big scholarship sites that you mentioned. Almost every single smaller scholarship sites just licenses their data from WinterGreen Orchard House.

So my advice to you is this–don’t waste your time looking for other sites on the internet–because you will find dozens, but they will all have the same scholarships.

The advice someone else gave you to check the library–that is only kinda good advice. The main publishers of scholarship books are the same people that license their data–so it is just going to be the repeat of the data you would find online.

The best thing to do to find fresh scholarships past the major sites online, is to look for local resources (because those are the scholarships that no one online does a great job at getting into their database). This is where your library might help (but just avoid the national scholarship books from the big publishers). You need to find the scholarships that are unique to your community.

Your financial aid office is also a surprisingly good source for the local stuff. And there are some local scholarship websites. These are usually put together by the state education board or another similar state or local group–if your community or state has one–these are often great resources and will have different scholarships than zinch.com and fastweb.

If anyone else tells your differently, they are just trying to drive traffic to their website. Just ask them where they get their scholarships from.
