can a compaq hard drive be put in a emachine laptop?

i had a compaq laptop and the damp thing crapped out on me and i had to get a new laptop fast for work but the only one i was able to grab was a Emachines but i really need the info of my compaq hard drive so is one able to put the compaq drive and use it the emachine ???

Since you said that you need to get the info off the drive from the Compaq… I’ll have to say that No, you can’t just take the hard drive from the Compaq and stick it into the eMachines, and expect the eMachines to boot up like the Compaq did. There are multiple reasons why this won’t work, not the least important is that you said nothing about the model laptops you are talking about. For all we know, the Compaq had an IDE style hard drive, and the eMachines uses a SATA style hard drive. If that were the case, the connections wouldn’t be the same.

What you *CAN* do is go to Best Buy. It’s sad that you need this right away, and that you can’t wait a few days… because needing this right away is going to be the difference between shelling out $ 50 and $ 10. At any rate, you go to Best Buy, and you get a 2.5″ hard drive enclosure. It is a little plastic and metal box made for laptop drives, and when you follow the instructions, you end up with a hard drive you can connect to your computer by USB. THEN you can just plug the Compaq drive in it’s new caddy into the eMachines, and access that information you need.
Here’s one for an IDE type drive http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Rocketfish%26%23153%3B+-+Hard+Drive+Enclosure+Kit+for+2.5%22+PATA/EIDE+Hard+Drives/9459597.p?id=1218108383641&skuId=9459597&st=hard%20drive%20enclosure&cp=1&lp=13
And here’s one for a SATA type drive http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Rocketfish%26%23153%3B+-+2.5%22+Serial+ATA+Hard+Drive+Enclosure/1600065.p?id=1218273487047&skuId=1600065&st=hard%20drive%20enclosure&cp=1&lp=5

There is no way *I* can know which drive you have… without the model number of the Compaq laptop. But, you can bring the drive with you to Best Buy.

end of line

and toshiba tablet laptop

toshiba portege m400 tablet get Alright, so whenever i try and play video games on my new eMachines E528 Laptop, the screen looks like its in widescreen, what i mean by this is there a black bars about an inch thick on either side of the screen, i just want to play full-screen, without any black bars blocking the screen, Help?

Couple of answers mate first emachines from pcworld r crap so they could have stuck in a cheap graphics card. Assuming its not that right click the screen and a list of options should appear, full screen should be one of them. If that don’t work go to ur desk top right click any area and head to properties hardware acceleration set to max and adjust the screen Resolution if that fails update the software
